Food packaging illustration by illustrator and artist Yaansoon
This is an example of culturally-relevant packaging. While food packaging illustration is generally about the ingredients inside the package, my approach to this Tunisian Harissa is about the culture from which this hot chilli paste originates. In my view, the target audience (millennials interested in cultural wanderlust) will be drawn to a package that accentuates the cultural aspect of the hot paste, and therefore I have drawn inspiration from the tradition of handmade Tunisian ceramics. I coupled that with naïve hand-lettering to add a touch of whimsy to the artwork.
This isn’t a finished design as I am an illustrator, not a designer. This is to showcase the illustration style and thinking behind some of my commissions.
Illustration Technique: Hand-drawn in pen and ink on paper, and then vectorised in Adobe Illustrator, and finalised in Adobe Photoshop.
