| Food and Travel Wall Art Illustrations, Social Media Artwork, UK Restaurant Branding Illustration, by Illustrator and Artist Yaansoon |
In January 2018, I finished working on a month-long project for a London-based restaurant scheduled to open in 2018 in Chelsea. La Mia Mamma restaurant comes with a unique concept centring around the “regional Italian cuisine,” featuring mainly home cooked dishes created and developed by authentic Mammas “who know best.”
The main reason for the restaurant management to approach me was largely thanks to previous artwork I have posted on my blog under my Illustrated Travel Stories series, and specifically the illustrated maps, part of the Italy Culinary Tour posts.
The project approached me in November 2017 to create a host of illustrations to help expand the restaurant’s branding beyond the logo, which was developed by Italian graphic designer, Marco Fagnani.
Entrusted with the creative freedom to lead the project, I set out to come up with a full-fledged colour palette that expanded on the basic orange and black colours of the logo. I created two colour palettes: A basic one that was used for social media, and another one that expanded on the basic palette for the wall art – by adding a few extra colours to give the wall art illustrations a handmade feel, rather than stick to a corporate branding kind of approach. The project also includes some hand-lettering for the different illustration artworks, including those created for social media and wall art.
I then started my illustration process with the social media branding outputs, using both pen-and-ink as well as digital illustration to achieve these illustrations.

UK Restaurant Branding Illustration & Wall Art: The Deliverables
This project includes an extensive list of deliverables that I was able to tackle in over a month:
- Social media illustrations: Headers for Facebook and Twitter, an illustrated “Coming Soon” post for Instagram, as well as four illustrated posts for Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter featuring authentic and vintage Italian kitchen tools.
- Pre-launch Website illustrations: The same social media illustrations were also utilised and optimised for use on La Mia Mamma’s website.
- Wall Art: Please see this post to learn about the five wall art deliverables (3 illustrated Italy maps and 2 illustrated recipes).
- Aprons: An illustration that expands on the social media illustrations, to be printed on aprons for servers and cooks to wear.
Seeing how the restaurant hasn’t opened yet, I am only including the illustrations that have been made public so far. In the future, I intend to update this page with the wall art illustrations post restaurant launch.
