In this section I will be sharing some of my sketchbook drawings, using pen-and-ink as my primary medium. As an illustrator, I’m mainly into linear ink illustrations, and I usually use pigment ink pens that are both water-proof and lightfast to create my sketches. These drawings are mostly food and travel oriented, and somewhat chronicle my trips to places like Italy and the Mediterranean, and other countries I have already been to, including Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Thailand, Holland, the UK, and Lebanon. My sketchbook drawings are an important part of my illustration process. They are often scanned as is to form the very first step in my digitally-painted artwork, using software like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. From a very early age, I have been drawn to linear illustrations in my multi-cultural children’s books, and for some reason, less linear artwork has always eluded me. I’m not sure why I love ink so much, but I guess it has to do with things like boundaries, compartmentalization, and lines that help make concepts feel sharp, understandable and clear.
