I created this digital illustration timelapse video of my most favourite topic in the world, Italian food ingredients, using my Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 tablet.

This is the first video in my Digital Illustration blog series. I wrote an intro post a few days ago where I shared with you all my digital art tools, including the smart Android tablet mentioned above, so make sure to check it out here.
I love watching speed-painting videos on YouTube. On my channel, you’ll find a couple of videos I created in the past using watercolour and gouache, but this one is my first digital drawing video ever. I’m so glad I got around to creating it.
There are several apps for Android that have the option of recording timelapse artwork. The one I’m using here, is the pro version of the Art Flow app.
In this digital illustration timelapse video, I started drawing without prior preparation. I basically did not create a base sketch, because I wanted to test the speed-painting functionality of the app. To be honest, most of my illustrations are created this way, intuitively and with a determined hand.
This illustration ended up featuring a collection of fresh vegetables and staple ingredients from the Italian cuisine – including aubergine (melanzane), tomatoes (pomodoro), artichoke (carciofi), olive oil (olio d’oliva), rosemary (rosmarino), and mushrooms (funghi).
I also chose to go with a limited colour palette. I went ahead and added the colours using the ArtFlow app demonstration purposes. However, in my normal illustration process, I usually colour in my illustrations on my desktop, using my Wacom tablet.

I can’t wait to share more speed-painting videos with you in the coming months! I plan to explore timelapse recordings of desktop software to share my process using Adobe Photoshop, so stay tuned!
